Values

In my work, I champion inclusive adaptive, collaborative governance as an essential tool for bringing community and government together. Both are essential to support a healthy environment and our island home.

Let’s dive into the details of these values and what they mean, in action.

1. Protecting water means management and protection of groundwater sources, as well as standing against expanded fossil fuel pipelines that propose to greatly multiply tanker traffic in Coast Salish waters.

2. Deepening conservation partnerships: working with First Nations and local conservancies to steward protected areas, while calling on the Province to invest in the growing and important role of the Islands Trust Conservancy. 

3. Care for People and Places: protecting ecosystems while supporting island communities, and ensuring that local knowledge, Indigenous ways of knowing, and science-based planning inform our deliberations. 

4. Modernizing and completing our Official Community Plan, and ensuring all voices are heard in the development of the Plan.

5. Preserving our distinct Island Life: Encouraging the unique ways Islanders live together, with flexibility for landowners and farmers and families.

6. Promoting local Governance as a collective responsibility we all undertake together, and translating complex policy into everyday language.
